I was just curious to know exactly how it was calculated, that's all.

And you wont get that info no mather how often this question is asked. The rating is (as said aprox. 50 times withing uncounted threads throughout the forum) based on ELO. Its not ELO itself, just based on it with the sl´s own variation of calculation. And every discussion about doing a better calculation or splitting the protocols, mods or whatever will (sorry to say that) have no effect on the actual calculation algorithm. There is not the time to change it in that substantiell ways, nor the need for it atm imo. We have discussed splittings or changes internally more then once and atm it is just as it is and i will not say it will change in the future nor will i say it wont change.

The sl started as a buddytracking and servertracking project which is still the basic of it. The rating algorithms have been changed in the past when there was time and need to do it and it might or might not change in the future as well. And everyone who runs an own coded project will know why "all the magic" isnt revealed only because some people would like to know how exactly it works.

Come on, no need to get angry, mine was mere curiosity. Anyway knowing how sl rating works (and possibly I could figure out myself since I'm not totally dumb after 20+years of coding) is not something I would kill for. Maybe if it was such a masterpiece... ;)

I would have made it differently, but hey, I'm not going to tell people what to do, I'm sorry if you took my post as a personal attack, talking too much is still one of my weak points, so I'd better close it here, after all everyone has told what he had to tell here.

I will keep using sl for tracking my friends and to check for servers, as I've done since 2006 and up to december 2009 ;) and for that your site is great as it has always been ;)

dont do it =) play for fun, maybe for good frags or for ure team. But to look always on ure rating like "omg xy is better and plays with a fakenick, damn got to change my name because i will get minus" is no fun imo.

wise words, that's, after all, what I have done up to now, except for the last month. And what I'll probably do again. Playing for rating has been a bit frustrating actually, if compared to playing for fun/obj/team.

I think I used to play only in laggy servers full of laggers ;) went a bit in that server you told, and I had 50acc in supply and 49 in warbell, while on etpro I have around 38-40 (public servers I mean). But then I left, because imho another bad thing of rating and raters is playing in 'easy' situaltions, with those poor beginners or fun players thinking that everyone is a cheater, and maybe trying to hax themselves because of that. Instead if beginners would play alone everyone would enjoy the game more, and have fun.

After all I prefer to be called lowbob in some etpro server, than experiencing what I saw in those servers where ppl play for rating: they say 'great shot' even for ordinary frags, as if they were superpro and impossible to kill, they call you cheater, etc.etc.
