This problem returned recently after using the fix I used in my above post.

Some research showed that America's Army players suffered the same problem, and that it seemed to be linked to PB having
issues when a DVD-RW was attached to the system. I had just installed a second DVD burner :)

Disabling both my burners in Hardware/Device Manager fixed the problem and I have no more freezes/lockups at any stage.

Disabling does not require a reboot, and can be re-enabled at the end of your gaming , again without a reboot.Takes only a few seconds.

Hope this helps.

you recognize the update of this thread? I had the same problem and its now fixed:

"delete the complete pb-folder, create a new pb-folder, copy pbsetup.exe in the pb-folder and start update.
Create now in the pb-folder a file with the names "pbcl.cfg" and copy the following text in this file. (or download it)

pb_sleep 500
pb_security 0

"

Hi !
I post just to say that my freezing problem (+LED always ON +IDE Burners Disappeared) has been resolved since yesterday (Jan 07, 2007)
ET works perfectly, absolutely no lag at all _o/
Don't ask me how, it's a ... miracle ? grin.gif

same goes here, i have an nforce2 board too with bluescreen lockups since december. i absolutely changed nothing on my systemconfiguration and et ran without pb like it has to run. but with pb the freezes -> pb(eb) problem. starforce is not the problem, i run several other games with different starforce versions (ugly enough) but these did not affect my et for months and years...
