The Syrian army claim to have found a cache of 5,000 German STG-44 assault rifles. The StG 44 was the first successful weapon of its class and the concept had a major impact on modern infantry small arms development. By all accounts, the StG 44 fulfilled its role admirably, particularly on the Eastern Front, offering a greatly increased volume of fire compared to standard infantry rifles and greater range than submachine guns.
These rifles look in mint condition and are still usable. The video below shows members of the Syrian rebels, who are fighting against the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, that have stumbled upon a contrainer full of rifles. The rebel member who posted the video mistakenly claimed that they had found 5.000 AK-47s:
