Save Ava: Mum launches desperate global appeal for a bone marrow donor to keep her 3-year-old alive
A DESPERATE mum has launched a worldwide appeal for a bone marrow donor in a last-ditch bid to save her three-year-old daughter’s life. Little Ava Stark has an extremely rare blood condition and won’t survive without a stem cell transplant. She needs a donor whose marrow satisfies 10 out of 10 genetic markers and after a search of the worldwide register, which has about 25 million people on it, just one was found.
The anonymous match agreed to proceed and Ava was due to have a bone marrow transplant next month – but 10 days ago the family received the devastating news that the donor had pulled out. Now Ava’s mother, Marie, is pleading with people across the world to get tested in a heartbreaking bid to find a life-saving match. She said: “I need everyone who can to get tested because they could save my daughter’s life.”
